The Planning Convention

The premier planning event of the year – over 700 attendees in 2007.

This year, we have changed the format for the Convention, bringing together wide-ranging plenary themes with linked workshops looking at these issues play out on the ground and at what this means for planning and planners. Delegates will get an immediate opportunity to really get to grips with practical matters raised in the themes. We’re also having a bigger Convention than ever before, with more study tours, more fringe events and drinks receptions on the Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Enjoy!

Understanding the design appraisal process

16 July 2008 (09:00 - 17:00)

Venue: New Connaught Rooms, Great Queen Street, London

The complexity of many projects now demands a range of skills. Whether for town centres or urban extensions, design quality has to be matched by financial viability. Delivering quality in different development contexts is critical if we are to meet the Government’s advice on creating sustainable communities. Making decisions on how we design, deliver, and control such complicated developments requires greater understanding of the process. This conference would bring together practitioners and representatives from Councils to give different aspects of the challenge.

urban design london 2007/2008 Programme cover

An urban design training programme for London - 2007/2008

London needs good urban design. As a world city, it
competes with cities renowned for the quality of their public spaces, streets, parks and buildings. This drive for quality needs to happen in the suburbs as much as in the tourist hot-spots. All London’s citizens deserve to live, work, learn and play in well designed, easy to use places.
